The Mount Rinjani hike via Timbanuh is one of the official trekking routes in the southern area of Mount Rinjani National Park, Lombok. This route offers a quieter, more authentic, and challenging experience compared to the more popular Senaru and Sembalun trails. Beginning at approximately 600 m above sea level, the journey ascends to the South Pelawangan area (2,439 m) where you spend the night, before continuing the next day to reach the South Summit of Rinjani at 3,500 m. Its main attractions include magnificent vistas of the Samalas caldera and the expansive Segara Anak crater lake, showcasing a rugged and spectacular natural panorama perfect for trekkers seeking tranquility and a physical challenge.

🛬 Pre-Hike Day – Arrival & Preparation
- Pickup from Lombok Airport / Port (Senggigi, Bangsal, etc.)
- Transfer to Tetebatu Village for hotel check-in
- Free time and a pre-trek briefing by your guide
Tetebatu is a serene and charming starting point nestled on the southern slopes of Rinjani. Surrounded by paddy fields, forests, and cool mountain air, the village provides a relaxed atmosphere to acclimatize before you head into the wilderness. The evening briefing at your hotel ensures you are well prepared and understand the technical details of the trek ahead.
🥾 DAY 1: Tetebatu – Timbanuh – South Pelawangan (2,439 m)
- 07:00 – Breakfast at the hotel
- 08:00 – Health check-up & registration at the National Park Office
- 09:00 – Start trekking from Timbanuh (600 m above sea level)
- Hike through lush tropical forests with several rest stops along the way
- Lunch break on the trail
- Arrive in the late afternoon at the camping area in South Pelawangan (Timbanuh Crater Rim)
- Enjoy a spectacular sunset with views of the Samalas caldera and Segara Anak
- Dinner and overnight camping under the stars
The first day’s ascent takes you through a vibrant, dense forest rich in tropical vegetation and natural sounds. The gradually rising trail offers refreshing solitude and a real sense of immersion in pristine nature. As you climb higher, the scenery transitions into expansive grasslands and rugged mountain shrubs. Upon reaching South Pelawangan, you are rewarded with breathtaking views of the caldera walls and the distant silhouette of Segara Anak.
⛰️ DAY 2: South Summit (3,500 m) – Descent to Timbanuh
- 02:00 – Wake up and prepare for the summit attack
- 02:30 – Begin the ascent to South Summit of Mount Rinjani
- 06:00 – Arrive at the summit to witness the sunrise over the colossal caldera
- 07:00 – Descend back to camp for a second breakfast
- 10:00 – Start the descent back to Timbanuh Village
- Approx. 17:00 – Reach the base, clean up, and prepare for departure
- Transfer to your next destination (Tetebatu / Mataram / Airport)
The summit attack starts in the early hours with a challenging yet exhilarating climb on a sandy, steep path that tests your physical and mental endurance.
